IDENTIFICATION

You must present satisfactory evidence of your identity. The identification document presented must be current or issued within three years of the date of services (in some cases), per Indiana State Law.

Notary Wording on your documents

If notary wording is not included anywhere on your documents, you must ask the notary for the type of notary certificate you need for that document.  By law, notaries are not permitted to advise on what you should choose, but we can describe the purpose of each certificate to you.

The two most common types of notary certificates in Indiana are:

  • Acknowledgement

  • JURAT

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

Used for a signer, whose identity has been verified, to declare to a notary public that he or she has willingly signed a document. See example below:

JURAT

Used for a signer to swear to or affirm the truthfulness of the contents of a document to a Notary or notarial officer.
